Here’s the thing to remember. Sometimes when there’s smoke, it’s just smoke. However, other times when there’s smoke, there’s fire. Sports fans aren’t stupid. The reason they often jump at shadows on social media and other sources of information is that they know sometimes it leads to something bigger. It is a player unfollowing his team on Twitter (X). It is a cryptic quote on Instagram. Or it is the player putting their house on sale. That last one has suddenly popped up for DJ Moore.
Chicago Tribune Business writer Bob Goldsborough revealed that the Bears wide receiver has officially sold his condominium in Lincolnshire.
Chicago Bears wide receiver D.J. Moore on June 6 sold his three-bedroom, 3,272-square-foot duplex penthouse condominium in a building in Lincolnshire for $870,000.
A Philadelphia native, Moore, 28, was traded to the Bears in 2023 with several other draft picks in exchange for the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He signed a four-year, $110 million contract extension last year.
One can’t help but ask questions. There have been rumors for months that Moore is on iffy ground with the Bears after a frustrating 2023 season. The arrival of a new coaching staff raised questions about whether they wanted to work with Moore or consider moving him via trade. There hasn’t been any indication of the latter. This development is the first sign, albeit a small one.
DJ Moore hasn’t shown any of the classic signs.
If a breakup loomed with the team, he would’ve shown far more indicators. Maybe he unfollows the team on social media. Maybe he skips OTAs and minicamps. DJ Moore hasn’t done any of that. It is possible the wide receiver has chosen to move to a new home. Remember, the Moores are expecting a third child this year. The family is getting big enough that a condominium might not be sufficient for their needs. Moving to an actual house makes far more sense at this point. Given the information available, that is the best conclusion to each for the time being. Maybe something is going on behind the scenes. If there is, both sides are concealing it remarkably well.
