The question was bound to come up.
Shedeur Sanders just wrapped a strong practice today at Cleveland Browns minicamp — headlined by a jaw-dropping 75-yard bomb to Gage Larvadain — when a local reporter shifted the conversation off the field.
“What about your dad?”
The question was about Coach Prime of course — as news today was that he’s been away from Colorado’s program this summer due to ongoing health challenges. But Shedeur didn’t flinch, didn’t dodge, and didn’t entertain it.
🔥 Shedeur Sanders. Ridiculous Question. A Perfect Answer
"I'm not here to talk about pops. I'm here to talk about the QB of the Cleveland Browns"

“I don’t know what’s going on,” he said. “I’m here not to talk about pops and them. I’m here to be the quarterback of the Cleveland Browns.”
His response was all business. And as he mentioned last month, that he isn't speaking with family, he could be just being brutally honest.
This gave me chills. Because, as tight-knit as their family is, are we seeing a serious cut-off between son and father relationally, so he can focus on being the Browns quarterback?
Maybe so.
Shedeur is stealing the show in Cleveland
Tuesday was the first day of Browns mandatory minicamp. All the rostered players were present, including veteran QBs like Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.
But the story?
It was Shedeur.
During a modified 7-on-7 drill, the rookie connected with Larvadain for a deep touchdown that had Browns staff and media buzzing. Later, in full 11-on-11 action, he showed command, calmness, and elite decision-making — completing multiple passes, including one to running back Dylan Sampson that turned into a big gain, and another sideline strike to Luke Floriea.
According to those at practice, Shedeur didn’t look like a rookie. He looked like a guy who already understands the rhythm of an NFL pocket.
Head Coach Kevin Stefanski had praise for the entire rookie QB group, but it’s clear Shedeur is gaining ground.
“These guys work extremely hard,” Stefanski said. “There’s a lot that goes into it at the quarterback position. I think all these guys are making really good progress.”
Let’s be honest: if Shedeur keeps this up, there’s no way he’s riding the bench in 2025.
The health of Coach Prime is still in the back of our minds
While Shedeur keeps his focus locked on football, we have our eyes on Texas, where Coach Prime is reportedly recovering.
Deion opened up last week on Asante Samuel’s podcast, admitting he’d lost 14 pounds and didn’t have energy. “What I’m dealing with right now is a whole other level,” he said. “I needed this.”
His oldest son, Deion Jr., echoed the concern in a YouTube livestream, saying he wasn’t going anywhere until his dad left their Texas home. That says everything you need to know about how tight this family is.
At the same time, however, Shedeur mentions that he doesn't know what is going on.
Is Shedeur laser focused?
Back in March, just weeks after being drafted in the fifth round by the Browns, Shedeur admitted that he hadn’t really been in contact with anyone from his inner circle — not Tom Brady, not Deion, not even his siblings.
“I haven’t talked to him [Brady] since the draft,” Shedeur said. “I’ve mainly just been focusing on the team, everybody that’s currently around me.”
That level of focus is admirable — even Brady-esque. But it’s also telling.
The same kid who played every snap of football being coached by his dad, now won’t give updates? He’s not giving interviews about Prime. He’s not commenting on the situation back in Texas. It seems like he's not even checking in.
And now, when the question is asked in front of national media? He says, “I don’t know what’s going on.”
Maybe that’s just professional boundaries. But it raises a deeper question: is there something more going on between father and son?
We may never know for sure.
