If not quite slammed shut, then certainly it has been put to for a bit. The first of this summer's two transfer windows concluded on Tuesday evening having been open since June 1 to allow those competing in the controversial FIFA Club World Cup to make changes to their squads.

With FIFA rules stating the window cannot last more than 16 weeks in a calendar year, it will now remain closed for the next six days before reopening next Monday until the final deadline on September 1 at 7pm.

While not featuring in the United States this summer, Liverpool have been among those taking advantage of the early start to transfer business. And here we assess the state of play for the Reds in the market.

Deals done

There have thus far been two new incomings at Liverpool. The most prominent has seen the Reds trigger the £29million release clause of Jeremie Frimpong at Bayer Leverkusen to sign the 24-year-old right-sided Holland international.

The other deal saw the Reds bolster their goalkeeping options by taking 20-year-old Armin Pecsi from Hungarian side Puskas Akademia in a £1.5m deal.

Giorgi Mamardashvili will arrive at Liverpool next month after a £29m deal was agreed with Valencia last year for the Georgia international goalkeeper.

Heading out has been Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Real Madrid signing the right-back a month before he was due to become a free agent and taking over the remainder of his contract in a package worth around £10m to Liverpool.

Caoimhin Kelleher has also called time on his Anfield career by joining Premier League side Brentford with the Reds recouping up to £18m for the Republic of Ireland international.

Seven Academy players have also been released, including midfielder Dominic Corness, defender Lee Jonas and goalkeeper Jakub Ojrzynski.

Deals ongoing

Much of the concentration has been on Liverpool's attempt to broker a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder wants a move to the Reds with talks having been ongoing for approaching a fortnight between the clubs over what could end up being a British record deal.

Liverpool's latest bid was £100m guaranteed with £13m of adds-ons, although Leverkusen are still determined to seek their £125m asking price. Talks continue between the two clubs as the Reds look to strike a final agreement.

The Reds also want to sign left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. The Cherries want £45m for the Hungary international although Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who arrived at Anfield from the South Coast side, is hoping to drive down the fee.

Negotiations could accelerate now Bournemouth have agreed a deal to sign left-back Adrien Truffert from Rennes as Kerkez's replacement.

Deals that didn't happen

There had been plenty of speculation over whether Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal would look to raid Liverpool to bolster their squad ahead of the Club World Cup.

Ultimately, there was no serious expression of interest in recent weeks in either rumoured targets Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.

Diaz was also the subject of an approach from Barcelona, which was dismissed by Liverpool who maintain they are not actively looking to sell the Colombia international.

Reports, meanwhile, have suggested Harvey Elliott rejected interest from Nottingham Forest although there was no concrete approach to Liverpool for the midfielder.

Deals that could happen next

Neither the Saudi Pro League nor Barcelona are likely to be deterred over their interest in Diaz and could still tempt Liverpool with a big-money offer for the player.

Nunez also remains an option for a number of Saudi teams, with rumours Atletico Madrid are also assessing whether to make an offer.

What happens with Ibrahima Konate over the summer could depend on whether the France international centre-back, who is approaching the last 12 months of his current deal, signs a new contract.

Elsewhere, Nat Phillips is under consideration by Championship side West Bromwich Albion.
