Four players can save Arsenal if Martin Zubimendi snubs Gunners for Real Madrid

Arsenal could miss out on landing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi as the 26-year-old is reportedly holding out for a move to Real Madrid. The Gunners are desperate to get their hands on the Spain midfielder after keeping tabs on him for a number of years.

Zubimendi enjoyed another impressive campaign in La Liga last season after helping Spain lift the Euro 2024 trophy last summer. The talented ace has two years remaining on his contract, which has a £51million release clause. Earlier this year, it was suggested that a move to Arsenal was virtually complete, but Real could pounce after losing to the Gunners in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. And Express Sport takes a look at four players Arsenal could turn to if Zubimendi snubs a move to London.

Bruno Guimaraes

Bruno Guimaraes has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since joining Newcastle from Lyon at the start of 2022.

The Brazil international, 27, captained the Magpies to Carabao Cup glory in March as his side defeated Liverpool at Wembley.

He has plenty of Premier League experience, knows how to perform on the big stage and may still have his best years ahead of him. So a move to Arsenal would make perfect sense.

Angelo Stiller

If Arsenal are willing to take a risk on a player who has never played in the Premier League, they could chase the signature of Angelo Stiller.

The Stuttgart midfielder impressed in the Bundesliga last season and also stamped his authority in the Champions League.

With Liverpool also said to be in the mix to sign the 24-year-old, Arsenal could steal a march in next season’s title race by convincing him to move to the capital instead of Anfield.

Enzo Barrenechea

Enzo Barrenechea joined Aston Villa from Juventus last summer but was soon shipped off to Valencia on loan. According to various reports, Barrenechea’s team-mates at Villa were blown away by his technical ability before he headed to Spain.

His stock rose further during his temporary spell with Valencia, and the 24-year-old could have a big role to play in the west Midlands next season.

But if Arsenal present an offer to the player, the Argentine star could find it hard to resist a move to the club.

Amadou Onana

If none of those options appeal to the Gunners, Amadou Onana could be the man for Mikel Arteta. The 23-year-old moved from Everton to Aston Villa a year ago and enjoyed a fine maiden campaign at Villa Park.

The Belgium international would cost Arsenal big money if they pursue him. But his composure on the ball and powerful running would be invaluable as Arteta’s side go in search of Premier League and Champions League glory once again.
