After dealing De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs in February, the Kings are in need of a new floor general. Garland has emerged as a top target as Sacramento looks to fill the void at point guard.

"The Sacramento Kings have identified Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland as a trade target as they seek to address the team’s vacancy at lead guard this offseason," Afseth reported. "Sacramento is motivated to find a long-term solution at point guard after trading De'Aaron Fox in February."

Garland recently underwent surgery to repair a lingering injury in his left big toe that affected him during the 2025 NBA Playoffs.

According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, he's expected to be sidelined for four to five months and potentially miss the first 10 games of next season.

As the Cavaliers assess their roster this offseason, Afseth reports that league sources believe the team is open to trading Garland under the right conditions.

A deal could allow Cleveland to reshape its core around Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley while improving overall roster balance.

Garland appeared in 75 games this past season, averaging 20.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 6.7 assists. The two-time All-Star is set to earn $39.4 million next season.

The Kings' current core features Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan—though DeRozan has been mentioned in trade rumors and could be on the move this summer.
