Danish press give verdict on Patrick Dorgu performance, claim Rasmus Hojlund must be'shaking'

Manchester United star Patrick Dorgu has finally completed his season, and ends it on a high.

Back in August, Patrick Dorgu was playing for Italian side Lecce. He was also yet to make his international debut.

Dorgu enjoyed a remarkable 2024/25 season, making his first ever international appearance for Denmark in September, and scoring on his debut with his very first touch, against Switzerland.

The 20-year-old’s performances for Lecce earned him a £25 million move to Manchester United in January, and he is a permanent fixture now in the Denmark squad.

Dorgu has now played his final game of a long season, helping Denmark to a 5-0 international friendly win over Lithuania.

Patrick Dorgu performance for Denmark

Patrick Dorgu started at left-back in a flat back four for Denmark against Lithuania, a variation on his usual wing-back role for Manchester United.

Dorgu thrived for the Danes, playing all 90 minutes in the victory, in which his outgoing former teammate Christian Eriksen was on the scoresheet.

The Manchester United defender’s numbers were impressive. While he did not end up with an assist, it was not for lack of trying.

Danish outlet Bold.dk gave Dorgu a 7/10 for his performance, writing: “He really got his offensive strengths going with sharp runs up the sideline that caused the visitors problems on several occasions.

“The United full-back was also the architect behind the 4-0 goal with his change of pace and cross, and he generally delivered a strong effort.”

Eriksen was also given a 7/10 for his performance, in which he scored one and provided another assist.

Rasmus Hojlund was benched

After being graded a 2/10 for his performance against Northern Ireland, Denmark dropped Rasmus Hojlund to the bench.

Hojlund came on for the final 18 minutes against Lithuania. He had two shots, with one on target, completing four passes.

His performance was too brief to get a rating – but this was seen as bad night for the Manchester United forward.

Every player in Denmark’s front four scored, including Hojlund’s replacement, Monaco’s Mika Biereth. And the Danish media were in no doubts that Hojlund has lost his starting spot for the foreseeable future.

Bold noted: “Mika Biereth only had to spend 12 minutes on the pitch in Odense before he beat Denmark 1-0. He then provided an assist, drew a red card and was constantly poisonous near the goal. Rasmus Hojlund must be shaking his pants by now. He has been overtaken.”

Similar to Dorgu, this ends a long season for Hojlund, but only one is guaranteed to be heading back to Manchester United.

A major underperformer in 2024/25, Hojlund is expected to be sold this summer to raise funds, but he did not do his transfer value any favours at all during this international break.
