Triano will be the second-lead assistant on head coach Jason Kidd's bench, working behind top assistant Sean Sweeney.

This move strongly suggests that Kidd will remain in Dallas, despite recent reports linking him to the New York Knicks' head coaching vacancy.

Triano, 66, brings more than 20 years of NBA coaching experience, including head coaching stints with the Toronto Raptors and Phoenix Suns.

Most recently, he served as associate head coach with the Sacramento Kings under Mike Brown over the past two seasons.

His hiring comes after a transition period for the Mavs, who lost three assistant coaches—Marko Milic, Darrell Armstrong, and Alex Jensen—following the midseason trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
