The race to sign Viktor Gyokeres is heating up, with the Sweden international becoming increasingly frustrated with Sporting CP over their stance on his transfer.
Manchester United are aiming to make significant improvements in their squad during the summer transfer window, with an emphasis put on selling players deemed surplus to requirements.
Ruben Amorim endured a difficult first six months at Old Trafford. United lost the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur before finishing the 2024/25 campaign 15th in the Premier League.
Those are just a few reasons why Ineos need to support Amorim in the transfer window.
United have announced the signing of Matheus Cunha, who joined from Wolves shortly after the transfer window opened, and is expected to add firepower to the team’s attack.
After struggling to score goals in a turbulent campaign, Amorim is hoping to add more quality to his attacking department. One possibility is a reunion with Sporting CP goalscorer Viktor Gyokeres.

Tom Grennan shares insight on Viktor Gyokeres future
Gyokeres is understood to be frustrated with Sporting CP for demanding more money for his transfer than what was initially promised between the two parties.
Fabrizio Romano believes Gyokeres would be a United player by now had the Reds won the Europa League and secured Champions League football for next season.

However, English singer and songwriter Tom Grennan has provided an unexpected scoop on Gyokeres’ future.
Grennan has never shied away from being a football fan, having done plenty of interviews about his love for United, although he shares a similar passion for Championship outfit Coventry City.
The popstar claims to know Gyokeres from his days at Coventry City and revealed why he expects the Swede to join United.
Speaking on BBC podcast You About?, Grennan said: “I know him well. I actually messaged him and he said that there’s different conversations going on. Do you know who his best friend is? Haaland. That is why I think he’ll go to Manchester United because he’ll be next door to Haaland.”
Although Gyokeres is still under contract at Sporting CP, the striker has made a drastic move to signal he is unhappy at the Portuguese club.
The 27-year-old has removed any mention of Sporting CP from his Instagram profile.
This comes after growing speculation over a summer move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
It remains to be seen if United will face significant competition for Gyokeres’ signature.
