Erling Haaland has paid a heartfelt tribute to departing Manchester City stalwart Scott Carson, who is leaving the Etihad after a six-year stint as the club's backup keeper. Despite only making two appearances under Pep Guardiola, the ex-England ace was hailed for his invaluable role as a reliable back-up and for bringing a wealth of experience and leadership to the changing room.
At 39 years old, Carson may be moving on, but his influence on his colleagues, including star striker Haaland, is undeniable, with the Norwegian sensation taking to Instagram to salute the veteran goalie. Haaland shared snaps with Carson from their time at City, captioning the post: "The kind of teammate every squad needs. All the best in the new chapter @scottpcarson33!".
Although Carson's final match for City was against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League during the 2021-22 season, he endeared himself to the team, becoming a key figure in boosting spirits and aiding in training sessions.
City acknowledged Carson's departure on their official website, stating: "During his time at City, Carson has been praised by goalkeeping coach Xabi Mancisidor and peers Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno for his work ethic and the effect of his positive attitude amongst the group.
"He has been part of a squad that has lifted 11 major honours over the last six seasons during what has been a historic period of success for Pep Guardiola's team.

"Everyone at Manchester City would like to thank Scott for his hard work and dedication and wish him the very best of luck for the future."
Despite only playing 108 minutes for City, Carson was part of an extraordinary era that saw the team clinch the Premier League four times, as well as the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Champions League and Club World Cup.
In his heyday, Carson starred for Liverpool, Charlton, Aston Villa and West Brom in the Premier League before later stints with Bursaspor in Turkey and Wigan and Derby in the Championship. He also earned four caps for England and played in the 2010 World Cup.
He follows Kevin de Bruyne out of City, with Jack Grealish also expected to depart soon.
