TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Liverpool’s owners, FSG, are beyond impressed with the work done by Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards in the Florian Wirtz deal.
It is no secret at this point that the Germany international is Arne Slot’s top target in this window.
The Reds have been in talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a deal to sign the playmaker for quite some time now, and TBR Football can confirm that the deal is now in the final stages.
Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are really pleased with that.
FSG blown away by Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards’ role in Florian Wirtz to Liverpool deal
TBR Football’s chief correspondent,Graeme Bailey, understands that Florian Wirtz will be joining Liverpool in the coming days.
Sources confirmed last month that it would take a British record deal to get Wirtz, and that Liverpool were willing to do so. The only issue was the overall deal, but again, as we revealed, Bayer pushed hard to get the total fee to the key €150 million figure.
Liverpool sources never pushed back at the fee; they confirmed that the deal was progressing well, and that is what happened over the weekend.
The deal is expected to be completed before the end of this week, and Bailey has revealed that FSG have been really impressed with how Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards have got this transfer over the line.
He told TBR: “Wirtz will be a Liverpool player by the weekend and by getting this done now, it allows them to let him get a break. He is entering a World Cup cycle, so he is going to be playing a lot of football over the next 12 months.
“That is a big reason Liverpool wanted this done early in June, they wanted to allow the player time to get things sorted before pre-season.
“I really can’t explain just how happy Liverpool are behind the scenes with this deal. FSG, the club’s owners, are blown away by the work of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes – those two have put so much work into this move, not just this month but the lead-up to it also.
“Liverpool are the Premier League’s best on the field, and it’s hard to argue they are the best off the field now too.”

Who could Liverpool sign after Florian Wirtz?
Wirtz is the dream target, and Liverpool fans will be happy to learn that this deal is almost done.
TBR can confirm that Hughes and Edwards have spent a lot of time on this deal, but they have put in work to secure another player too.
Once the Wirtz deal is sealed, Milos Kerkez is the next player Liverpool are expected to sign.
TBR revealed that Kerkez is closing in on a move to Anfield, and Bournemouth are already looking at replacements.
We can confirm that the Cherries are targeting Adrien Truffert and have made him their top target to replace Kerkez at the Vitality Stadium.
