“Already decided” – Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea’s plan for future of €15m ace

Mathis Amougou is set to join to Strasbourg on loan this summer as a replacement for Andrey Santos according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea are once again set for a busy summer and made Liam Delap their first signing after agreeing a £30m deal with Ipswich.

The Blues face a critical window and whilst they could look to sign another striker, they are also looking for a centre back and right footed attacker.

Mathis Amougou to join Strasbourg on loan

Whilst incomings are important the Blues also need to sort out the futures of a number of talented youngsters, with Amougou falling into that category.

Chelsea agreed a deal worth around €15m with St Etienne for Amougou in January, but the 19-year-old made just two appearances totalling 22 minutes for the Blues.

It’s clear Amougou was perhaps signed with Strasbourg in mind and it was reported at the time he could be the replacement for Santos.

Romano has now provided an update on the situation and confirmed Amougou would be joining Strasbourg on loan.

He took to X.com and said:

“Strasbourg are set to sign Mathis Amougou from Chelsea, plan already decided since January when deal got done.

“Andrey Santos left Strasbourg to become part of Chelsea CWC squad.”

Kendry Paez also heading to Strasbourg

Amougou isn’t the only Chelsea player heading to Strasbourg and he will be joined by South American sensation Kendry Paez.

It’s was expected Paez would be part of the squad for the Club World Cup and he would be assessed by Enzo Maresca before a final decision was taken.

However, it was reported on Tuesday he’d been left out and will now spend the season in Ligue 1 with Chelsea’s sister club.

Paez is said to be disappointed at the decision as he was told last week he’d be part of the squad heading to America on Friday.
