The Netherlands international has penned a five-year deal which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2030.
It follows his two-year spell at AC Milan where the 26-year-old was named Serie A’s Best Midfielder in 2024/25 after bagging 15 goals in 54 games – more than double his tally from the previous term.
His sparkling spell in Italy came after making his professional debut at PEC Zwolle in his homeland before a move to AZ Alkmaar – and his domestic success has translated onto the international stage.

After making his senior Netherlands bow in 2023, he played all six of his nation’s matches at EURO 2024 as he helped Ronald Koeman’s side to the semi-finals.
He will now linkup with City for the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA this summer and after signing his contract with the Blues, he sat down for his maiden interview with the Club.
