NBA Makes Announcement for International Game Next Season

The NBA continued its push for international expansion this week, unveiling new plans as part of the league’s ongoing global basketball initiative. The announcement adds to a growing list of regular-season games hosted outside of the United States, a strategy the league has embraced for more than three decades.

According to the league’s official release, the NBA revealed Monday that the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons will face off on November 1, 2025, a Saturday, at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. The event marks the NBA’s 34th game in Mexico and will coincide with Día de Muertos celebrations.

The Mavericks finished a disappointing 2024–25 season with a 39-43 record, placing 10th in the Western Conference. They earned a spot in the Play-In Tournament and defeated the Sacramento Kings in their opening game but were eliminated by the Memphis Grizzlies, dashing their NBA Playoffs chances after an NBA Finals appearance the previous season.

Dallas' star-studded roster featured Anthony Davis and four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson but felt the missing impact of Kyrie Irving, as he missed the final sixteen games of the season after an ACL tear.

Detroit, for its part, ended the regular season 44-38 — marking its first winning campaign since 2016 and securing the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference. After clinching their first playoff berth since 2019, the Pistons were eliminated in six games by the New York Knicks in the opening round. The team is led by 2025 NBA All-Star Cade Cunningham, along with young contributors Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson, and Jalen Duren.

The game will mark the Pistons’ third game in Mexico, while the Mavericks will return to the country to play in their eighth game.
