Arsenal may see an ideal summer transfer target taken off the table in the next week or so.

Arsenal now look as though they might miss out on one of their reported attacking targets this summer. The Gunners have needs aplenty this summer, needing to strengthen or add depth to pretty much every position on the pitch.

As far as Arsenal are concerned, they are looking at a big spending bill this summer given their long list of needs, and they could have saved a big chunk of money by securing one particular deal. Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané is up for grabs this summer, or at least as things stand, with the former Manchester City star opting not to sign a new contract at Bayern.

Arsenal need a winger, and signing an experienced title-winner for free would have been a huge boost to their budget, even if the wages are likely to prove very costly. But it seems the Germany international will now be heading elsewhere, with Turkish giants Galatasaray reportedly closing in on a deal. Fabrizio Romano has posted on X: “Understand Galatasaray are now optimistic and confident to get Leroy Sané deal done! Galatasaray board and president now confident to get green light from Sané and bring him to the club. Negotiations well underway.”

The report comes after fresh reports in Germany that Sané has rejected an improved offer from Bayern over a new contract. There were also reports that Sané is ‘very interested’ in a move to Arsenal, but it now looks as though he might end up making the move to Türkiye, where he is likely to get an inflated wage offer.

Arsenal’s options narrow

Arsenal’s options when it comes to wingers are being reduced by the day amid a slow start to the summer. The Gunners decided not to complete any deals during the special 10-day early window, but aside from beating competition to signings, they didn’t strictly need to move, given they are not in FIFA Club World Cup action.

Aside from Sané, Nico Williams has been mooted as an option, but the Athletic Club winger’s release clause has to be paid in full, and his wages are going to be very high, even if he is willing to leave Spain. Elsewhere, there aren’t too many winger options available. Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens could be available, but Chelsea are trying to get that deal done.

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo could be an option for top clubs this summer, as could AC Milan star Rafael Leao, but there aren’t any real links with Arsenal at this stage. There have been whispers of interest in Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon, but that’s a deal that is likely to cost £100million or close to it, and given their other needs, that will be a deal that is too rich for Arsenal’s blood this summer.
