Aston Villa could take transfer advantage from uncertainty at Premier League rivals

Aston Villa have been credited with an interest in Brentford midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard, amid the ongoing uncertainty at the Bees this summer.

Danish international Damsgaard, , has been at the Gtech Community Stadium for the last three seasons and last year he played in every single league and cup match that the team took part in, scoring three times in 43 appearances and assisting 11 more.

Only turning 25 next month, Damsgaard last extended his contract with Brentford in January of this year, a deal which runs until 2030 but also, on top of that, includes a further option in the club's favour. Currently valued at £28m by Transfermarkt, the highest market rate he's ever been valued at, Damsgaard could be in demand this summer.

There is, as mentioned, an uncertainty in west London; manager Thomas Frank, who has been in charge ever since Dean Smith left to take over at Villa in 2018, is all set to become the next manager of Tottenham Hotspur after they decided to sack Ange Postecoglou despite leading the club to the Europa League.

Star man Bryan Mbeumo is also expected to leave. Manchester United are big admirers, but Spurs themselves have emerged as a destination if Mbeumo wished to follow Frank across the capital. Yoanne Wissa has attracted interest and Kristoffer Ajer has been told by international boss Stale Solbakken to leave in order to play more regularly elsewhere.

Reports claim that Villa are among a number of Premier League clubs who have taken a liking to Damsgaard, who Brentford value at being in the region of €40-50m. They paid a little over £13m for him when they signed the playmaker from Italian side Sampdoria.
