'The club know' - Major boost for Man United as Brighton star makes transfer statement

All the latest transfer news and gossip for Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League

Brighton left back Pervis Estupinan dropped a major hint that he could be leaving this summer.

Estupinan has been a key man for the Seagulls and last term made 30 Premier League appearances with one goal and one assist.

The 27-year-old featured for Ecuador yesterday as the South Americans sealed World Cup qualification following their 0-0 draw in Peru.

After the match he was asked by local media about his future after links with a move to Manchester United this summer.

“The truth is they have been three years in Brighton with a lot of learning,” said Estupinan.

“But this will be a transfer market with a lot of movement.

“The club know that I would like to grow, that I would like to keep growing.

“The club have understood this.

"I’ve spoken to the club. The club have given me this bit of freedom to be able to make a decision.

“Now we will try to see better what is on the table and to see where we can go."

Estupinan joined Brighton for around £15m from Villarreal in 2022 and is contracted at the Amex Stadium until June 2027. He has a guide price of between £35m - £40m.

The former Watford man has made 104 appearances for the Seagulls in total with five goals in total and 14 assists.

Brighton’s full back options

Estupinan’s potential exit creates a problem for Brighton and they would likely dip into the transfer market if he goes.

Tariq Lamptey signed a one-year contract extension earlier this week and can play at left back but the former Chelsea full back is more comfortable on the right.

Versatile midfielder Jack Hinshelwood has slotted in at left back in the past but that is hardly a long term solution for Fabian Hurzeler.

Left sided centre backs Erin Cashin and Igor Julio can also fill in but the two a more defensive minded and would lack that ability to drive forward in the manner that Estupinan does.

Argentina international Valentin Barco remains on the books but he is tipped to complete a £10m move to Strasbourg this summer after his loan with the French outfit.

Brighton have been linked with a free transfer move for Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters, who can operate as left or right full back.
