Southampton make ‘formal offer’ for striker – Competition willing to go ‘all out’ in chase

Lucas Cepeda’s impressive performances for Colo Colo led to his call-up to the Chilean national team and now, the versatile forward is attracting interest from Southampton.

Journalist Thiago Alvarez Rico has reported the Saints have made a ‘formal offer’ for the 22-year-old and the expectation is that the next few days will be crucial to the player’s situation.

Colo Colo have made the decision to sell the player and while the amount offered by Southampton is not known, the Chilean side want $7m (£5m) to part ways with their star.

The South Coast club will not be alone in their chase for Cepeda as interest from River Plate is also rising.

Journalist Renzo Pantich has told YouTube channel AZZ about it and he told the outlet, as relayed by RedGol:

“ River will go all out for Lucas Cepeda. 22 years old, he’s using the foreign quota .”

Clearly, it will not be easy for Southampton to land the Chile international, who has consistently been amongst the goals for Colo Colo in the past couple of seasons.

Considering the Saints’ struggles in front of goal last season, they will have to improve their attack and Cepeda can certainly be a good solution.

He is also an established international for his country and has the experience of operating at the highest level. This shows he could be a handy signing for Southampton and bringing him to St Mary’s could be a clever decision.
