Outgoing Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has admitted he is not in any rush to make a decision on his future.

The Northern Irishman will become a free agent in a few weeks after being informed his United contract will not be renewed. He is one of nine players who will officially be released on June 30.

The centre-back returned to Old Trafford for a second spell in September 2023 after spending time training with United during the summer. He signed a one-year deal before being offered another one-year contract at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Turning 38 next January, it was widely anticipated Evans would use his departure from M16 as a chance to announce his retirement. However, he is yet to make a decision on what he will do next.

"I'm not sure yet," Evans told BBC Sport NI when asked about what the future looks like. "I'll take a bit of time. I don't feel like I'm in a rush to do anything."

The centre-back, who has won 12 major honours throughout his United career, made 43 appearances during his second spell at Old Trafford, which was a much higher tally than he probably anticipated when he returned to the club almost two years ago.

United were reasonably well-stocked at centre-back and former United manager Erik ten Hag decided to bring the former Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion man back to Old Trafford to provide cover. He made 30 appearances during the 2023/24 season.

Game time was much more limited in 2024/25, highlighted by his tally of just 13 appearances.

However, injuries were a big contributor to that figure, with his cameo appearance against Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season his first outing in the league since Ruben Amorim's first game in charge of United against Ipswich Town back in November.
