New report sheds light on possible Newcastle players-to-be-loaned next season

Newcastle United have ruled out both a sale and a loan for Lewis Miley this summer despite widespread interest from clubs across Europe, according to The Athletic’s Chris Waugh.

Miley, 19, saw reduced playing time in the 2024-25 season, starting just once in the Premier League after earning 14 starts the previous year. Still, the midfielder remains highly rated by the club, and Waugh reports that Newcastle will “definitely not sell him and are unlikely to let the 19-year-old out temporarily either.”

The decision comes despite the ongoing financial pressures Newcastle faces under the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

The club was forced to sell Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest in a PSR-motivated deal last summer, and similar concerns had raised fears over Miley’s future in Tyneside.

Waugh confirmed the club plans to retain Miley amid uncertainty, partly due to the expanded fixture list next season after qualifying for the Champions League.

Newcastle are also weighing options for a William Osula loan, though that’s unlikely to happen. While a loan could benefit the 21-year-old forward’s development, Waugh noted that retaining squad depth remains a key factor, and Osula may stay on Tyneside to continue training under the club’s staff.

The club must also make decisions on other young players, such as Garang Kuol, but for now, Miley’s status is clear.
