Liverpool have been involved in a massive transfer saga for Florian Wirtz over the last couple of weeks.
Indeed, talks have progressed nicely with the German only wanting to join the Anfield outfit, but a fee hasn’t yet been agreed upon by Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool.
There were reports on Tuesday evening that a £126million bid had been accepted for the attacking midfielder, but those rumours have since been shut down by Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen sources.

At the moment, it feels impossible for the deal to fall through with Fabrizio Romano even sharing how Liverpool’s coaching staff feel about having a player of Wirtz’s calibre available to them next term.
Liverpool’s coaching staff are excited for Florian Wirtz’s move due to his versatility
Throughout the 2024-25 season, Wirtz contributed to 31 goals across all competitions and was one of Xabi Alonso’s standout players at Bayer Leverkusen.
And, while speaking on The Here We Go Podcast, Romano shared how Liverpool’s coaching staff are feeling ahead of the German’s move.
“Yeah, it’s about excitement, I would say. Big excitement among all people at the club,” he said.
“It’s about the management, it’s about the coaching staff, looking forward to working with a player like Florian Wirtz, who can also offer different solutions on the tactical point of view, who can play in several positions up front, so it can be an excellent addition to a team who already won obviously the Premier League title last season in a fantastic way.

“There is excitement and it’s not just about the fan base. I can guarantee that internally they believe they won a crazy race because there were many clubs in the race for Florian Wirtz.”
Why Florian Wirtz is the perfect signing for Liverpool
Wirtz is highly regarded as one of the best number 10s in the world.
The German is just 22 years old, but the impact he’s had on Leverkusen over the last couple of seasons has been unmatched.
Indeed, Liverpool already have Dominik Szoboszlai to play as their attacking midfielder, but as was shown in one of their last games of the season against Brighton, the Hungary international can thrive playing in a deeper role.
Szoboszlai and Mac Allister have been key cogs in the way Liverpool attack, and if they both started a game with Wirtz ahead of them, Liverpool would no doubt have one of the best midfield trios in the league.

Wirtz’s keen eye for goal and vision for a pass are what set him apart from the other players in attacking midfield, such as Rayan Cherki, who has just joined Manchester City.
But, unless a deal is struck for the young German soon, then Liverpool could end up missing out on what could be the signing of the summer, which, in the grand scheme of things, would be far from ideal.
