Leeds United eye Sean Longstaff deal
The 27-year-old is attracting some interest this summer, with his Toon future uncertain.
According to the Athletic, Longstaff is a transfer target for Leeds United. They believe that the Geordie midfielder is ‘attainable’.
That certainly appears to be the case, with reports claiming that Longstaff is ‘expected’ to leave St James’ Park this summer.
He has fallen out of favour on Tyneside, with Eddie Howe not naming Longstaff in a Premier League starting XI since December 2024. Despite this, Sandro Tonali believes that Longstaff is ‘underrated’.
Longstaff has a wealth of Premier League experience that could be valuable to Leeds, as they aim to buck the trend and avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff decision could be influenced by UEFA
Longstaff’s Newcastle United future is complicated by the Magpies qualifying for the Champions League.
They need to name four club-trained players in their 25-man squad for the 2025/26 Champions League. As it stands, Longstaff is the only Toon player who contributes towards that quota.
That makes Newcastle’s decision regarding Longstaff all the more difficult. On the one hand, he is no longer a regular and probably wants to go play elsewhere. On the other, he is needed to comply with UEFA’s squad rules.
While Newcastle weigh up Longstaff’s future, the Magpies are looking at other ways to increase their number of club-trained players. Geordie Boot Boys understand that Fraser Forster is likely to sign for Newcastle United on a free transfer. He is about to be released by Tottenham Hotspur and came through Newcastle United’s academy.
