Gyokeres reportedly believes he has a gentleman's agreement that an offer of €60million plus €10m (£58m) would be accepted this summer, and now fears the club have backtracked on that supposed promise and are pricing him out of a desired exit.
Sporting head coach Rui Borges was asked directly about Gyokeres’s future on Tuesday, to which he replied: "Sporting's future begins on July 1st.
"That's all I can say and today I'm here to, above all, salute this tribute that was paid to me. That's all. I'm on vacation, I'm not here to talk about that."
Fresh reports in Portugal on Wednesday claim an escalation of tensions behind the scenes with Gyokeres feeling "disrespected" and now prepared to never play for the club again.
Arsenal and Manchester United continue to be linked with Gyokeres, though the former are currently prioritising RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and there are doubts the latter could afford him.
