Viktor Gyokeres will sign for Manchester United so he can live close to best friend Erling Haaland - according to musician Tom Grennan.

Gyokeres, who has been in top form at Sporting Lisbon, is being heavily linked with a big-money move to the Premier League this summer with United and Arsenal thought to be admirers.

Having netted over 50 goals this term, there is speculation that Gyokeres could follow his former manager Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford, with the Portuguese having made the switch from Lisbon mid-season.

United are keen to upgrade their attacking options, and Gyokeres appears to fit the bill with his career having taken off after leaving Championship side Coventry City two years ago. Grennan supports the Sky Blues and maintains a friendship with the prolific attacker.

In conversation on the BBC podcast 'You About?', Grennan shared: "I know him well. I actually messaged him and he said that there's different conversations going on. Do you know who his best friend is? Haaland. That is why I think he'll go to Manchester United because he'll be next door to Haaland."

Haaland has enjoyed incredible success in England in the last three years, etching his name in the record books following his arrival at Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund.

City finished almost 30 points clear of United last season, although they missed out On the Premier League title to Liverpool. Amorim is determined to turn United's fortunes around and could do worse than Gyokeres, with the striker already having an agreement to leave Sporting, reports the Mirror.

However, the forward is reportedly furious with the Portuguese club after they hiked up his price tag beyond the initial agreement - they now want £67 million for the forward. This fee significantly exceeds the previously agreed £50 million plus £8.4 million in bonuses.

Portuguese newspaper Record has highlighted this nearly £10 million disparity.

Addressing the speculation over his future, Gyokeres said recently: "Let us see. It's hard for me to say, because yeah it is football and you never know what's going to happen in the summer. So for me to say anything else than that is impossible."
