Report: Chelsea admire £40m Alejandro Garnacho alternative as Everton struggle to convince him to join them

Chelsea are continuing to monitor the situation of £40 million winger, with Everton unable to make progress on a deal.

Chelsea have no shortage of wide attacking options, but that hasn’t stopped them from pursuing additions heading into the new season.

The marquee deal being pursued by Chelsea remains Xavi Simons, but there’s no indication that they will stop there, especially if the planned outgoings come to fruition.

Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as tensions persist with coach Ruben Amorim. The Argentine is interested in joining Enzo Maresca’s side as he looks to stay in England, but no concrete offer has been made.

Another winger who has been on Chelsea’s radar is being pursued by other Premier League clubs, but without success to this point.

Malick Fofana not convinced by Everton, Chelsea still interested

Everton have been interested in Malick Fofana for some time, but reports from journalist Nizaar Kinsella suggest the Toffees are no closer to reaching an agreement.

They have turned their attention to Southampton’s Tyler Dibling, having a bid of £27 million rejected for the youngster.

Worth noting Everton had been interested in Lyon winger Malick Fofana but have struggled to convince him to move thus far.

Chelsea are among Fofana's admirers (along with other current English clubs in Europe) but they also have strong interest in Alejandro Garnacho. https://t.co/LVETuB7X2D

Interest in Fofana is widespread, with as many as eight teams reportedly monitoring the 20-year-old.

Everton have ‘struggled to convince’ the Belgian on a move, suggesting he may be holding out for a better opportunity.

With Lyon’s well-documented financial issues, it’s hard to imagine they will keep Fofana on the books, especially in the event of a bidding war.

Chelsea to choose between Malick Fofana and Alejandro Garnacho

While Chelsea have not been shy about adding depth to the attack in recent windows, there will surely be a decision made between these two similar profiles.

As it stands, Garnacho looks the more likely acquisition, given that there is less competition for his signature and Chelsea have been vocal about their interest. However, the club are not rushing the decision, opting instead to deal with the outgoing business first.

Chelsea have other priority signings in mind further back the pitch, which may take precedence in the immediate future.

But given this ownership’s track record of aggressive pursuits, it’s increasingly likely that one of Garnacho or Fofana will be wearing blue by summer’s end.
