The arrival of Ruben Amorim brought some hope of change, but it was too late. The lack of cohesion in the team was clearly visible, and Manchester United disappointed their fans on many occasions.
Although last season is hard to forget, this summer, Manchester United have shown signs that they want to break the old mould and build something new. Signing two big names like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo and adding young Diogo Leon have shown that the team are now thinking about the future. For this reason, United have shown interest in knowing Ortega’s availability.

Ortega is counted as a reliable backup. His reflexes are fast, he has a good grip on the ball, and he does not panic under tension. One of German goalkeeper’s important saves against Tottenham is still fresh in the memory. He has played in the Premier League, so he understands the intensity and pressure of English football. However, Ortega is 32 years old and should not be looked at as the first choice for our team.
We agree that bringing in Stefan Ortega would be an out-of-the-box move, but the risks involved are not negligible. Ortega has proven himself to be a solid option in the Premier League. His calmness, experience and ability to perform in clutch moments in matches are all signs of his ability. However, it won’t be an upgrade over Andre Onana. Meanwhile, the Cameroon shot-stopper did make mistakes last season, but his distribution and footwork have helped the team in its build-up play.
Making Ortega the No.1 straight away would not be the right strategy. Bringing him in as a challenger would be better so that the pressure remains on Onana and both fight for their place. However, our club should be looking at Senne Lammens as he will be the best long-term option for the club, given our priority to sign a striker as well.
