Elsewhere, Manchester City have also invested heavily, and Manchester United are hoping to spend their way back into European contention after a disastrous season of last. Arteta on Arsenal’s business

Speaking in late July Arteta said of Arsenal’s summer business: "They bring new excitement, a new energy as well," Arteta told reporters in Singapore on Monday ahead of a pre-season match against Serie A side AC Milan. We signed very important players as well. Again, everybody feels like their height has to go to a different level, and that's what we're seeking," he added.

"Ideally, you want it (transfers) done on day one in pre-season. We've done very, very well so far. I'm very pleased with the way the club is supporting the necessities and improvements that we required in the team."

Maresca explains Joao Pedro signing

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca spoke during the FIFA Club World Cup about why the club decided t sign Joao Pedro from Brighton. He said: “We knew against a low block that Joao was going to help us because he has quality in the last third against teams that defend deep. He showed today how good he is, but it’s just the beginning. We knew already how good Joao is. Today, he was playing a little deep, and we know how good he is at dropping and linking [with his team-mates]. He is very good technically in small spaces, and that’s why we decided to bring him here.”

Frank on Kudus impact

Frank got a good look at new Tottenham signing Kudus during Thursday’s win over Arsenal. He said after the game of the winger: “I think he was really good today Kudus. His hold-up play, the way he takes hold of the ball in tricky situations. His one-vs-one skills, his creating opportunities for the team was top class. On top of that I think he is working extremely hard and there was a recovery run from a set piece when he was straining all the way back and he won the ball back.

“That is how he can help the team so much. He will make a lot of the fans excited with his offensive actions and he will also help the team defensively.”
