Man Utd & Newcastle 'both interested' in transfer hijack as West Ham 'target' two midfielders

The latest Premier League transfer rumours, with news from Manchester United, Newcastle and West Ham.

It’s a busy period in the transfer market right now, and to keep you up to date with all the latest developments, we’re back with our regular round-up and review of some of the juiciest new Premier League transfer rumours – starting with a story concerning a fresh transfer battle between Manchester United and Newcastle United.

The two teams are already battling it out for the signature of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško, but now Caught Offside claim that they could both be in the market for another Bundesliga star – they are “both interested” in VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, it’s claimed.

The newly-minted Germany international, who scored 12 times in the German top flight last season, was expected to move to Bayern Munich but negotiations over a deal are dragging on, and it’s suggested that it’s unclear whether they will come back in with another bid.

If they don’t, the two Premier League clubs could be in business, although Bayern have already had a bid worth a total of €55m (£47.7m) rejected, suggesting that Woltemade won’t come cheap. They’ll have to wait their turn in the negotiations anyway, and it’s said that Woltemade is focussing on Bayern and may not wish to leave the Bundesliga at this stage.

The 3AM Verdict: We’d be very surprised if Woltemade doesn’t end up at Bayern, but if something does go wrong then perhaps other teams come in. As a number ten, however, we wonder whether United (who have already signed Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha) or Newcastle (who don’t usually play with an attacking midfielder) are the most likely destinations even with Bayern out of the frame. Unlikely, in our opinion.

West Ham target two midfielders who have shone in the top flight

Over to West Ham now, who have been rather quiet in the transfer market thus far – but not any longer, according to dedicated Hammers website The West Ham Way, via ExWHUEmployee.

Apparently they’ve made Aston Villa attacking midfielder Jacob Ramsey their “number one target” and that Villa are “looking to sell him” – although Ramsey himself is said to prefer to stay put if he can. No word on how much Ramsey might cost, or whether they’ve got that far in negotiations, but talks are said to be taking place.

West Ham are also “continuing to target” Southampton starlet Mateus Fernandes, one of the few bright spots of the Saints’ dismal 2024/25 season, although a bid is said to be “tougher to get done”. A “cash offer” has been made, it’s claimed, but Fernandes is apparently more keen on moving to the continent.

The 3AM Verdict: Neither are completely new rumours but it’s interesting to hear claims that talks are underway – not that either deal looks easy to get done. It’s been suggested that West Ham’s finances are pretty tight this summer and neither player will come cheap, and alongside both players’ apparent reluctance we can’t say that either transfer looks probable at this point.

Wolves ‘keen’ on beating Napoli to Spanish star

Finally, a story for the Wolves fans reading – according to Sport Witness, who cite an Italian journalist’s original reporting, the Midlands club are “keen” on versatile Sevilla star Juanlu Sánchez and have “opened direct contact” with the Spanish side.

They are said to be “likely” to make a formal offer of €17m (£14.7m) for the 21-year-old, who has established himself as a regular for his side over the last two years and has represented Spain right through the age group levels. Able to play as a winger or a wing-back, he would apparently act primarily as a replacement for Nelson Semedo.

Apparently Italian champions Napoli already had a “basic understanding” with the player and his club over a deal, but with that move yet to materialise, Wolves are primed to pounce. Despite those negotiations with Napoli, however, it’s suggested that it’s unclear whether Sevilla wish to sell one of their best young players or not.

The 3AM Verdict: This rumour comes after Wolves missed out on primary target Marc Pubill, and as it’s so fresh it’s hard to assess its accuracy. Juanlu only signed a new contract with Sevilla in April, but there will surely be an amount of money which would sway the club. One to watch.
