Ricky Council IV, waived by the Sixers last week, has signed a one-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets. The 24-year-old wing offers upside despite a down year, and Brooklyn sees him as a low-risk bet in their rebuilding phase.
Just days after being waived by the Philadelphia 76ers, Ricky Council IV has landed a fresh opportunity within the same division.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the wing has agreed to a one-year contract with the Brooklyn Nets, as confirmed by his agent, Adie von Gontard.
Undrafted out of Arkansas in 2023, Council carved out a two-year stint with the Sixers, appearing in 105 games — including a team-high 73 during the 2024–25 season.
Though he showed promise as a rookie, the 23-year-old struggled to replicate that impact last year amid increased minutes and responsibilities. He averaged 7.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 17.1 minutes per game, but his shooting percentages dipped to 38.2% from the field and 25.8% from deep.
Council’s expanded playing time last season was more circumstantial than earned, driven by injuries to Philadelphia’s core rotation. Still, at just 24 years old (he celebrates his birthday this Sunday), the athletic wing remains an intriguing developmental project.
With the Nets leaning into a rebuild, they’re positioned to take a low-risk gamble on upside. While terms of the deal haven’t been made public, it's expected to be a non-guaranteed, minimum-salary contract — offering Brooklyn roster flexibility without affecting their offseason cap strategy.
