Alexander Isak is “the best in the world” – he’s “completely unique”

Alexander Isak is a “frightening” talent ready to establish himself in the world-class category – that’s the view of Newcastle fans who have watched him close up.

Isak has become the headline story this transfer window after his non-appearance on Newcastle‘s pre-season tour, with the forward claimed to be “desperate” to make the move to Anfield.

Liverpool are expected to make a formal offer of between £120 million and £150 million, though how Newcastle will respond remains to be seen.

It would prove another transformative signing for Liverpool in an already statement summer, and he was recently described to This Is Anfield as “the best in the world.”

FourFourTwo’s deputy editor and Newcastle fan, Matthew Ketchell spoke glowingly of the Swede, highlighting his unique and exciting style. Here’s what he had to say.

How good is Alexander Isak?

He’s brilliant. I do think he’s the best in the world. At the games we’re sort of looking at each other going, ‘the best striker in the world right now is playing for our club’.

We haven’t been able to say that for decades, so we’re enjoying saying that and we love watching him play.

He’s frightening really, he really is frightening.

What is he like as a player?

He’s got a real easy-on-the-eye, unique style about his play, it’s almost balletic the way he moves, it’s completely unique.

The balance he has, the speed he has, the strength he has, the intelligence, it’s kind of all there.

He had a little bit of an issue with one-on-ones last season (2023/24), start of this season, where he was going through on goal and not taking his chances – he seems to have cleaned that up.

He’s such an exciting, brilliant player to watch. He can score from anywhere, as Liverpool found out at St James’ Park before Christmas.

How good can Alexander Isak become?

Obviously when you play at that level, questions are asked, ‘what is his ceiling?’. Eddie Howe obviously says things like it’s wherever he wants to go and he can be whatever he wants to be.

I think he can climb into that world-class category if he keeps scoring 20-plus goals in the Premier League.
