Brazilian journalist André Hernan has added more detail to West Ham United’s pursuit of Botafogo goalkeeper John, whichwe covered earlier, revealing that the Premier League side are not walking away just yet.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Hernan claimed the Hammers are preparing an improved offer worth between €10m and €12m, after seeing their initial approach turned down. The information was later confirmed at Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte.
Hernan made it clear that John would welcome a move to the Premier League. He’s well regarded by Brazil’s national team staff, and a platform like the English top flight is naturally seen as a strong boost to any player’s international ambitions. As Hernan put it, a “Premier League showcase” could be ideal.
At the same time, the goalkeeper is not desperate to leave. He’s performing well at Botafogo, where he also feels visible enough to stay in the national team’s radar. According to the journalist, any decision on the next step will involve both the club and the player once a formal bid arrives.
That would mark a clear escalation in efforts to land the 29-year-old, who has been in fine form this season. In 2025 alone, John has featured in 33 matches for Botafogo, logging 3,000 minutes and conceding just 26 goals along the way.
For now, West Ham remain the only club to actually put money on the table, following Manchester United and Aston Villa links in recent weeks. And the fact they’re willing to come back with more only confirms what Hernan summed up neatly: Premier League eyes on John are a sign of how much his stock has grown.
