Girona have Aston Villa’s Àlex Moreno and Stade de Reims’ Sergio Akieme as their two targets for the left-back position this summer, according to Friday’s edition of Diari de Girona.
The La Liga club have taken this step as they are set to part ways with Miguel Gutiérrez. They are involved in negotiations with Napoli to sell him for around €20m, while other clubs, including Marseille, are also keen.
In the event of Gutiérrez’s departure, Girona will be left with 35-year-old Daley Blind as their only option for left-back. If their manager, Míchel, considers the Dutchman mainly for the centre-back position, then Girona would need at least two left-backs.
Therefore, they have identified the Aston Villa player and Akieme as two targets. Míchel knows the duo well as he previously managed them both at Rayo Vallecano.
According to the report, Girona tried to sign the 32-year-old Aston Villa player in 2017, when he was at Rayo Vallecano. They have rekindled their interest, but it’s not clear whether they will be successful this time around.
Moreno has returned to Aston Villa after a loan spell at Nottingham Forest. The Spaniard is in his final year of contract at Villa Park and could return to La Liga in this window.
