Manchester United have supposedly suffered a blow in their efforts to sign Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, as Los Che are progressing in contract conversations with the Spaniard.
Guerra is understood to have caught the eye of Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim following a pair of productive campaigns in La Liga, registering seven goals and four assists across the last two Spanish top-flight seasons.
The 22-year-old's deal at Mestalla now has a little under two years left to run, and it was reported last month that Guerra had rejected Valencia's first offer of a renewal, having been dissatisfied with the terms offered.
Valencia are refusing to give up hope of tying their midfield starlet down to a new-and-improved contract, though, and according to Marca, talks are continuing with the player's camp and are moving in a positive direction.

Valencia have already lost one high-profile player to the Premier League this summer, as up-and-coming defender Cristhian Mosquera made the move to Arsenal after also turning down the chance to sign a new deal.
However, Mosquera made it clear to Valencia that he wanted to join the Gunners, whereas Guerra has supposedly not engaged with any other club, as his first priority is to prolong his stay at Mestalla.
Valencia's latest renewal offer would keep Guerra at the club until the summer of 2029, and his wages would triple for the 2025-26 season before also rising progressively in the next three years of his agreement.
Money is not the only motivation for the 22-year-old, though, as he supposedly wants guarantees that Valencia will soon be competing at the top end of the La Liga table again rather than fighting for survival every season.
Guerra's camp are 'neither optimistic nor pessimistic' of a deal being struck, but Valencia are growing in confidence over a renewal for the midfielder, who boasts eight goals and four assists from 89 appearances for the club in total.

Valencia have already turned down one bid for Guerra, but it came from AC Milan rather than Manchester United, as the Rossoneri offered a package totalling €20m (£17.5m) for the midfielder.
Milan's proposal consisted of a fixed fee of €16m (£14m) plus €4m (£3.5m) in performance-related add-ons, but it was swiftly rejected by Valencia, and the seven-time European champions are yet to go back in with an improved bid.
Meanwhile, Man United are said to have 'sounded out' their Spanish counterparts over a transfer, but the Red Devils have not yet tabled a formal offer for the 6ft 1in lynchpin, in spite of their clear interest.
Guerra was part of the Spain Under-21 squad that reached the quarter-finals of this year's European Championships, where he scored La Roja's consolation goal in their 3-1 loss to England in the last eight.
