Reports suggest Benjamin Sesko is ready to join Newcastle United in dramatic U-turn

· 2 August 2025, 10:30

Newcastle United fans were resigned to the idea that Benjamin Sesko was to join the long line of transfer targets who opted to move elsewhere.

Manchester United were thought to be the favourites to land the Slovenian striker despite not being able to offer him Champions League football next season - which incidentally was thought to be the main reason he wants to leave RB Leipzig.

However, last night, a Slovenian journalist reported that Sesko was set to choose Newcastle, which was all it took for the story to spread like wildfire.

We have reservations as we have no idea how reliable this journalist is, but it's positive news, so we're definitely going to put some faith into it for our own sanity.

The Benjamin Sesko tide is turning in Newcastle's favour

Even Craig Hope has jumped on the bandwagon. He shares our scepticism, naturally, but after so much negativity, we're fine with holding on to any little glimmer of hope right now.

The bookies have also returned Newcastle as favourites to sign the 22-year-old in the wake of the news.

If Newcastle can see off the competition from Man United to sign Sesko, after rejecting Liverpool's approach for Alexander Isak, that should surely serve to lift the cloud over St James' Park.

Would you be happy with the window if we landed a CB, Wissa, Sesko, Ramsdale and Elanga but lost Isak?

Yes. It seems like good business all around.

No. It's not enough.

Losing Isak is a disaster in this window regardless of incomings.

We think there's still potential to have a decent window

Of course, if Newcastle are successful in signing Sesko, that will likely embolden Liverpool to return for Isak, so that begs the question of Newcastle fans: Would you be fine with Isak leaving as long as Sesko was heading to St James' Park?

Moreover, if we manage to land Yoanne Wissa, Benjamin Sesko and a central defender along with Aaron Ramsdale and Anthony Elanga, but we lose Alexander Isak, would you count it as a good window? Tell us in the poll above.

Things could be about to turn a corner for Newcastle. Let's keep sending out those positive vibes.
