Newcastle United have tabled a £65.5m bid for Benjamin Sesko - after Eddie Howe got the green light to make a transfer window statement.
Club sources have confirmed the deal with Newcastle, but Manchester United are not discounted from the race yet.
ChronicleLive can report from Seoul that two PIF officials are travelling with the team and have been on hand to get quick answers on targets. The Saudi-backed owners remain right behind the quest to make Newcastle a permanent fixture in the top five.
Bringing in Sesko is not necessarily a sign for Alexander Isak to go to Liverpool with Howe saying today that he wants to keep the Sweden striker. An overall deal of £70m is on the table for the RB Leipzig man with Howe a big fan of the 6ft 5in centre-forward.
It would be a deal that would rock the Premier League given Man United's interest in the star. And it would also represent a U-turn on Sesko after the Red Devils thought they'd stole a march on the striker IF he chooses black and white.
Howe was also asked whether there was a scenario that may exist that he signs Sesko and keeps Isak. Howe said: "We are looking at the best players we can get.
"We are only looking at the best we can get, I see all situations open and available to us. I feel that is the only way we are going to get where we want to go, which is to maximise quality over quantity.
"That is the way it has always been, the way we work, we try to improve, we have don it pretty well to this point.
"It has been a challenging summer as you know. We have missed out on loads of different targets for different reasons.
"But we are still very competitive and we are still in there trying to bring good players to the club, that won't change until the window shuts."
