Leeds United's Premier League rivals in advanced talks to sign Chelsea striker in £20m deal

Leeds United's Premier League rivals Burnley are in advanced talks to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja on a permanent deal.

The Clarets, pipped to the Championship title on goal difference by the Whites last season, have reportedly reached an agreement with the Blues to sign the 23-year-old forward in a deal that could be worth up to £20m. A Press Association report states Broja is keen to make the switch and is ready to sign a five-year deal at Turf Moor. It has been suggested the deal is likely to go through until early next week.

Broja, who joined the Chelsea academy in 2009 and signed his first professional deal with them in 2020, has spent time on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, Southampton, Fulham and Everton. The Albania international endured an injury-hit loan at Goodison Park last term, failing to score a single goal as the Toffees opted against exercising their option to sign the forward on a full time basis.

Scott Parker’s Clarets are preparing for life back in the top flight but recently sold star man James Trafford for a club-record fee to Manchester City. The goalkeeper was one of their standout performers last year, recording an impressive 29 clean sheets in 45 Championship appearances.

Burnley, United and play-off winners Sunderland face an uphill task to avoid relegation next season. The last six newly-promoted clubs have gone straight back down as the gap between the top two divisions in English football continues to grow.
