'Joining us very shortly': David Moyes excited as Everton expect arrival almost as important as …

Everton are facing some important weeks ahead of them in the summer transfer market.

It has been a difficult market for Everton to navigate, with the Toffees struggling to get deals over the line.

David Moyes has admitted that convincing players has been tough, which is something that has shocked him.

There is still around a month for Everton to get their deals over the line, but the new season is just a matter of days away.

Everton have put together a European-style recruitment system behind the scenes.

Angus Kinnear is fronting the operation as the new CEO, but there is even more change being sanctioned in that department.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Moyes has admitted he is hoping the arrival of James Smith after he left Manchester City as their Director of Scouting and Recruitment.

“James Smith is joining us very shortly, who has been head of recruitment at Manchester City,” he said.

“So, we’re hoping that he comes back more experienced and with more knowledge, which will help us going forward.”

Everton want to bring in some new attacking players as their priority this summer, following the signing of Thierno Barry.

Big changes are needed at Everton this summer and Moyes is optimistic the addition of Smith could help sanction those changes.

The start to the summer has been far from ideal for Moyes, with Everton losing both of their Summer Series games to date.

Despite this, Moyes has made the bullish target of eyeing European qualification for the upcoming season.

“I also think I’ve come back a bit more experienced with what I’ve seen and what I’ve done,” Moyes added.

“I wouldn’t want to use the word dream, but I’ve got an ambition to see if I can get Everton back towards European football.”

Everton are eyeing some ambitious transfers like Jack Grealish, which could certainly propel them up the table.

But there is still a lot of work needed on Merseyside if they are to even be in the conversation of European qualification.
