Report shares if Alexander Isak could make formal transfer request after Liverpool bid rejected

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is reportedly expected to hand in a transfer request to try and force a move to Liverpool.

Liverpool insider DaveOCKOP reports that Isak will respond to Newcastle's decision to turn down an opening £110m bid by formally requesting to make the switch. He has not been part of the Magpies' pre-season amid a groin problem but he is also hellbent on departing St James' Park.

Eddie Howe has admitted that the situation is "far from ideal" and Isak is prepared to force his hand if no breakthrough is found in the coming days. He was one of the Premier League's in-form forwards last season, finishing second in the Golden Boot race with 23 goals.

Newcastle are thought to have been unimpressed that Liverpool's bid went public but a second offer is expected amid talks continuing between the two clubs. The reigning Premier League champions are "ready to pay a transfer fee reaching £140m with add-ons".

This could see them pay up to £80m up front for the 25-year-old who has three years left on his contract. The Tyneside outfit my be keen to recoup a large sum this summer to sign a replacement.

One target is RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, who they have submitted an official bid for on Saturday (August 2). He also linked with Manchester United and the Slovenian will either join one of the two clubs or stay at Red Bull Arena. Other options include Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Jorge Strand Larsen.

Newcastle want a British transfer record fee for Isak after spending £60m on the Sweden international in the summer of 2022. His former club Real Sociedad are believed to possess a 10% sell-on clause.

If Liverpool were to agree on an £140m fee it would eclipse Florian Wirtz's deal earlier this summer as the club's record signing. They have the funds to a deal, especially after selling Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for £65.5m last week and placing Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott on the market.
