Newcastle United confirm exit of midfielder after nine years on the club's books - Finally

ยท 2 August 2025, 12:30

With absolutely no disrespect intended towards Isaac Hayden, but Newcastle United have finally got the former Arsenal midfielder off their books.

Joining the Magpies from Hull City in 2016, the former Arsenal academy man arrived at St James' Park with a ton of potential.

A utility midfielder who could slot into almost any position, Hayden was a very useful and capable member of the squad for a good couple of years.

Until he suddenly wasn't. There was a period where Hayden's head wasn't at Newcastle any more with the midfielder's family based down south, it seemed Hayden wanted to leave Tyneside to be closer to his family, and his form suffered.

Isaac Hayden was one of the players who received a Mike Ashley super contract

He was eventually convinced to stay and was offered a lengthy contract by Mike Ashley, which he duly signed. However, his form never really recovered, and Hayden went on to have four loan spells away from the club, all of which involved some form of injury, which kept him from fulfilling his potential and perhaps making a permanent move away.

Hayden still had a year to run on his Mike Ashley contract this summer, but now he and the club have come to an arrangement which sees the Jamaican international leave the club as a free agent.

Having been called up to represent Jamaica by former Toon boss Steve McClaren, Hayden was told he'd need to find regular football to keep his place in the squad.

Isaac Hayden is free to find a new club after leaving Newcastle

The 30-year-old is now free to find a new club without the burden of them having to buy out his remaining year at Newcastle, which is what was likely putting prospective buyers off.

It may be too late for Hayden to regain his early form, but hopefully, a new club gives him a new appetite for the game, and he can continue his adventure as an international footballer too.

Good luck wherever you end up, Isaac, and thank you for your service. He writes as if he's going to read this.
