'Good indication' - Leeds United star issues upbeat Whites message with 'top team' declaration

A Leeds United star has given his thoughts on pre-season so far with a top team declaration.

Whites captain Ethan Ampadu has issued an upbeat and determined Whites message with a top team declaration ahead of Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Villarreal.

Premier League-bound Leeds will return to Elland Road for the first time since signing off from the Championship season with Saturday afternoon’s visit of the La Liga side who finished last season fifth in Spanish football’s top division.

Writing in his captain’s column of the matchday programme, Ampadu declared that Villareal would provide a really tough test as a “top team” - one who have qualified for this season’s Champions League.

Ampadu, though, has issued an upbeat message on the way his team have returned to pre-season and says his side are determined to produce a winning display against Saturday’s visitors - even in a pre-season friendly.

Ampadu wrote: “Today we’re looking forward to getting our first run out again at Elland Road, ahead of the new season.

“A really tough test for us against a top team”

“It will be a really tough test for us against a top team in Villarreal, so I think it will be a good indication of where we are at, with just over two weeks to go until the season begins.

“Naturally, pre-season game or not, we go into it hoping to win and put on a good display, so hopefully we are able to do that.

“Following the summer period, I think every player looks forward to getting back into pre-season training and seeing teammates and staff once again.

“Everyone has come back focused and with a positive mentality, as we prepare for our Premier League opener against Everton in a couple of weeks.”
