All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Crystal Palace as they start looking ahead to the Community Shield.
Crystal Palace are now stepping up their preparations for the new season which, for them, begins next week when they face Liverpool in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium. The Eagles have been in Austria this week, and they played a couple of friendlies on Friday with a split squad.
Oliver Glasner will want to do more shopping ahead of the season kicking off, especially given the risk of the likes of Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi leaving the club. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Selhurst Park.
Guessand latest
Palace have been linked with a move for OGC Nice striker Evann Guessand this summer, with Glasner reportedly wanting another striker to take his striker group up to three ahead of what will be a busy season.
Guessand had 13 goal contributions last season, scoring 13 and providing 10 assists, but the Eagles have not made their move just yet. Nice-Matin say Guessand is open to a move to either England or Germany, but bids have not been forthcoming. La Liga side Villarreal were also linked earlier in the window after they lost Thierno Barry to Everton.
Bisseck blow
But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan have rejected the offer, and in even worse news, the player has also turned down the interest from Palace, seemingly killing the deal altogether. Bisseck has previously spoken about how much he enjoys playing at Inter, and while there has been a change of manager this summer, it seems he is intent on staying.
Lacroix on Austria trip
Palace defender Maxence Lacroix has been speaking from Austria after a demanding pre-season camp. He told club media: “I think it was a really good week because we played two good games [against Mainz 05 and Augsburg]. We got also 90 minutes, which is really important for the next big game: the final of the Community Shield.
“I feel like we are ready, and we showed it again today. We showed that we are ready to run, we are ready to score, and we are ready for this final, so I think everyone is happy, and myself also.
“It’s really good to play against other teams, and especially teams not from England, because we are going to play Europe this year and we will play against other teams from other countries. This is a good test for us, and we showed that we can be competitive and we are good also against any teams. I enjoyed the week. I come here every year. When I was at Wolfsburg, I was also coming here. It's always a pleasure to come here. It's nice weather and nice landscape.”
On the upcoming Community Shield, Lacroix added: “I’m really excited, because it's always special to play at Wembley – especially with our fans. Like I said last time, ‘Wembley will shake’ – and I hope and I guess we will go again to win this trophy.”
