Liverpool had a bid for Alexander Isak rejected this week while there have been conflicting reports over the amount that the Reds offered.
Arne Slot is building a superstar outfit and views Isak as the perfect player to wrap up his attacking signings for the summer. The Dutch manager has already recruited Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike which – even without Isak – makes them favourites to retain the league title.
According to David Ornstein, Newcastle are closing in on Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, who could be Isak’s replacement.
Ornstein reports: “Newcastle United have made an offer worth €80million for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. The bid is comprised of €75m (£65.5m; $86.9m) up front with a further €5m in potential add-ons, and was tabled by Newcastle in the past 24 hours.”
Manchester United are also interested in Sesko but it does not seem likely they will beat Newcastle to his signature.
Sesko signing close as Liverpool schedule “new round of talks” for next week to sign Isak
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Liverpool have not stepped away from interest in Isak despite claims that the Reds will not make a second bid for Alex Isak.
Tavolieri reports: “Liverpool FC never left out the race for Alexander Isak, at all… new round of talks have been scheduled early next week to advance on an agreement with Newcastle United.
“As revealed, Isak only wantsLFC, has made it clear withNUFC and will make it clear again.”
The reporter says there will be more to report on soon.
It seems unlikely Liverpool won’t sign Isak at this stage
While this is by no means a concrete claim to report on, it’s my feeling that Isak will be a Liverpool player and maybe even before the start of the Premier League season in less than two weeks.
The Champions will open the season by hosting Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday 15th August and it seems likely Isak will be a Liverpool player by then.
With Sesko not far from being a Newcastle star and Isak’s public standoff with the Magpies, it does feel like it’s a matter of time until Liverpool find an agreement to sign the 25-year-old.
