Hammer blow: Man United'pipped'in goalkeeper race by PL rival

Manchester United have reportedly lost out to West Ham United in the race to sign Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim can currently call upon Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton as his three goalkeeping options.

However, Amorim is believed to be looking for a potential replacement for first-choice goalkeeper Onana, who has made a number of high-profile errors since arriving from Inter Milan in 2023.

According to The Sun, the Man United head coach had identified Hermansen as a potential option to replace Onana.

Man United lose out to West Ham in Hermansen race

However, the report claims that the Red Devils have been 'pipped' in the race by fellow Premier League side West Ham.

The Hammers have reached an agreement over personal terms with the Danish shot-stopper, who has also been linked with Aston Villa, Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Having got the green light from Hermansen, West Ham will now be focusing on striking an agreement with Leicester over a permanent transfer.

The two clubs are believed to be keen to finalise the deal before recently relegated Leicester begin the new Championship season against Sheffield Wednesday on August 10.

The Hammers seemingly view Hermansen as a replacement for Lukasz Fabianski, who left the club at the end of last season.

If Hermansen joins Graham Potter's squad, he will compete with Alphonse Areola for the number one spot in the side.

What next for Man United?

While Man United may miss out on Hermansen, they are believed to have at least a couple of other goalkeepers on their radar.

The Red Devils**recently failed with a loan move** for Emiliano Martinez, who could leave Aston Villa before the summer window closes next month.

They have also been believed to be keeping a close eye on Gianluigi Donnarumma's uncertain situation at Paris Saint-Germain.

There is a possibility that the Italy international could leave this summer, with PSG set to sign goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille.
