Ruben Amorim told 2025/26 Man Utd prediction that could entirely change if'two'major puzzle pieces fall into place - opinion

Ruben Amorim has all the pressure on his shoulders going into the 2025-26 Premier League season at Old Trafford after the Red Devils’ woeful 2024-25 campaign.

Manchester United endured their worst finish in the Premier League era last season, with the Red Devils tumbling to 15th place under Ruben Amorim and Erik ten Hag.

Amorim struggled to turn around United’s poor run of Premier League form under ex-Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag, who was sacked as Red Devils manager last October.

The Red Devils failed to secure European qualification through their woeful league standing, but United did have a lifeline opportunity back in May under Amorim.

United reached the Europa League final and the Red Devils could have secured a place in the Champions League for the 2025-26 season and major silverware as well.

However, Amorim watched the Red Devils fall short at the San Mames Stadium in May after United lost 1-0 to Spurs in their Europa League encounter in Bilbao.

Gary Neville made an eye-opening admission about Man Utd and Ruben Amorim ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season

Ruben Amorim has been putting the Manchester United first-team squad through their paces during his first pre-season training and tour at the Premier League club.

The Red Devils kicked off their pre-season summer tour in Sweden with United’s 0-0 draw against Leeds United last month before heading to the United States.

United’s Premier League fixture list for the 2025-26 campaign dropped in June and Amorim faces no easy task with the tough run of matches ahead of the Red Devils.

Gary Neville was asked for his two cents on United’s upcoming season and the Sky Sports pundit was far from convinced that the Red Devils are completely ready.

The 50-year-old ex-United captain said that the Red Devils need “two signings” at a minimum that are of a high quality for the club to be in a much better position.

“[…] I think the two signings are good signings yet, there’s [sic] a couple more needed,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think they need a goalkeeper. And I think if they fill those two positions with decent signings, then United can have a lot, I mean, they have to have a better season than last year.

“It can’t get any worse, really.”

Gary Neville’s prediction highlights the missing pieces in Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd squad ahead of the new Premier League season

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have shown early support for the United manager and brought brand-new signings through the doors of Old Trafford this summer.

Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo was signed from Brentford, while United wonderkid Diego Leon also became part of the Red Devils’ squad.

However, the ‘Ruben Amorim era’ at Old Trafford is still lacking more signings and United must offload the ‘deadwood’ from his squad to free up their financial power.

Amorim is putting down the key foundation for his long-term vision at the Premier League club, but the Red Devils’ squad depth is weak going into next season.

Neville’s concerns could still be addressed before the start of the new Premier League season or even before the summer window slams shut in September.

However, the arrival of new signings is out of Amorim’s control and the United manager will need Ratcliffe and Ineos to deliver on their end of the bargain.
