Everton are in the market for a new right-back, and they could now poach a key target from a Premier League rival.

Wolves finished six points behind Everton in the Premier League last season, as both teams saw their form pick up after changing managers midway through the campaign.

Vitor Pereira sparked a resurgence at Wolves, and wants to kick on by signing right-back Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla.

David Moyes wants to add a new option in the position, and is now attempting to hijack Wolves’ offer for the defender.

Sevilla endured a poor season in La Liga as they finished 17th last season, and some of their best players could now head to the Premier League.

Wolves are said to be in advanced talks to sign Sanchez, who has established himself as a key player at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan since coming up through the youth academy.

Sanchez played in the Champions League with Sevilla shortly after his initial breakthrough, as his side won the Europa League in 2023.

However, journalist Matteo Moretto has now reported that Everton have made an approach of their own “in the past few hours” to sign the 21-year-old, with the player valued at around £15 million.

Wolves must have thought they were in the clear to sign Sanchez, so this development will no doubt anger the Toffees’ fellow Premier League side.

Sanchez is an attacking right-back also capable of playing on the wing, and has made 74 senior appearances for Sevilla since breaking into the team in 2023.

It is unclear what the Spaniard’s preference is at this stage, but with a deal with Wolves not yet agreed, Everton may fancy their chances of a last-minute swoop.

Sanchez could be a good fit for Everton

Everton are lacking in the right-back department, with Nathan Patterson not particularly in favour and Seamus Coleman on his last legs.

A young, attacking option such as Sanchez could be a good addition, and he could rotate with Jake O’Brien depending on the opposition.

Sanchez did initially struggle defensively during his breakthrough, but has picked up a lot of experience as a key player in the last year, but Sevilla’s struggles have meant that confidence is low in his side, and a move to Everton could appeal to him.
