Darwin Nunez transfer twist as new club joins race amid Saudi links

AC Milan have made Darwin Nunez their top striker target as the summer transfer window heats up.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Rossoneri have already held talks with the player as they explore a move to bring the Uruguayan to Serie A.

Milan’s push is being led by Igli Tare, the former Lazio sporting director now consulting with the club.

Tare is said to be a big admirer of Nunez and wants to make him a focal point of Milan’s next attacking rebuild.

Despite the interest, negotiations remain difficult. Liverpool are believed to be holding out for a significant offer in order to recoup a chunk of the £85 million they spent to sign the striker from Benfica in 2022.

Nunez has had a mixed spell at Anfield, scoring goals in flashes but struggling for consistency under both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.

While still a fan favorite due to his raw energy and work rate, the club may feel now is the right time to move on.

Saudi bid adds pressure to Liverpool’s decision

Milan aren’t the only club chasing Nunez.

Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal have submitted an official bid to Liverpool, according to journalist Hamad Al-Suwailihi via Al-Riyadiya.

This comes as Saudi clubs continue to target top-level European talent, and Al Hilal view Nunez as a marquee signing.

They are reportedly offering a lucrative package for the 26-year-old, which could test Liverpool’s resolve.

With multiple clubs circling, Liverpool have a decision to make.

Selling Nunez this summer would allow them to reshape their forward line and reinvest funds, potentially into targets like Alexander Isak or another high-profile striker.

Nunez’s departure would mark the end of an eventful three-year stint at the club.

While he never fully settled, his passion and intensity made him a cult figure.

Whether it’s Milan or the Middle East, it seems increasingly likely that Nunez will be playing elsewhere by the start of the 2025/26 season.
