For many years now, we’ve often said that if Callum Wilson stays fit, Callum Wilson scores goals.

It’s just a shame that in the last 18 months of his Newcastle United spell, the forward found it difficult to find said fitness, and it unfortunately tarnished parts of his legacy in the eyes of Toon fans.

But 49 goals in the black and white stripes is still a great return, with 33-year-old still dreaming of first team football and having a place on the plane ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

We can now expect to see him play Premier League football for at least one more season, as he looks to have secured a new contract with one of our league rivals…

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein and [BBC Sport’s](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c0qlw7e98j4o) Sami Mokbel, Callum Wilson has agreed a deal to join West Ham after his contract expired with us earlier this summer.

The striker has completed a medical in East London, and is set to sign a one year deal with the Hammers, with his 12-month contract said to be heavily incentive-based.

BBC Sport report that Graham Potter is also eyeing Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey, who has been linked with a move to Newcastle United for a few years now.

The 24-year-old midfielder is thought to be available for a fee in the region of £30-40m, although it remains to be seen if Newcastle reignite their interest after links with a bid prior to June’s PSR deadline.

Unfortunately for Wilson, there’ll be no reunion with best friend and podcast co-host Michail Antonio, after the Jamaican international was released at the end of last season too.

On paper, West Ham could be in serious trouble of becoming embroiled in a relegation battle this season.

Having sold Mohammed Kudus to Spurs, and with Lucas Paqueta potentially to follow, it might be a big ask for Potter to keep his side firmly in the mid table this season, particularly if one of the promoted clubs show signs of form.

The Hammers are taking a big gamble here on Wilson: his sublime goal record speaks for itself, but his sole contribution of last campaign came in the FA Cup against Birmingham.

West Ham haven’t been able find that free-scoring striker for some time now, with the likes of Evan Ferguson and Niclas Füllkrug struggling to find the back of the net last season. If they want to stand a real chance of survival, they’ll need Wilson to get back to his best.
