Bayern Munich fans have got their first glimpse of Luis Diaz in action after the Colombian winger moved from England to Germany this summer – and the Allianz Arena faithful have delivered a verdict after he replaced Lennart Karl during half-time of their pre-season friendly against Olympique Lyonnais.
Vincent Kompany’s men are looking to retain their status as the champions of Germany next season – and adding Diaz to an eclectic mix of forwards was on the cards: the former Liverpool wide man joined the club for a cool £65.5 million.
Diaz had cemented himself as a key player for the Reds – having chalked up 148 appearances between 2022 and 2025 – but was allowed to move onto pastures new this summer. But how did the 28-year-old winger fare at the start of his new venture?
A Closer Look at Diaz’s Bayern Munich Debut vs Lyon

As expected, Diaz was named on the Bayern Munich bench as they faced the French side at the Allianz Arena. Harry Kane, Kingsley Coman and Karl (as mentioned) were Kompany’s starting forward, but Diaz’s impact was evident early on.
Involved from the off, Diaz’s numbers prove what he will bring to the reigning Bundesliga champions. In 45 minutes of action, he enjoyed 22 touches – seven of which came inside Lyon’s penalty area – and two shots on goal. Both were on target.
Albeit intangible in terms of numbers, Diaz's trickery on the left won Bayern Munich a penalty, which was subsequently turned in by Michael Olise. The winger also came close to scoring in the 88th minute but Mathieu Patouillet denied him the chance of scoring on his debut.
His passing was accurate, too, which is reflected in his success rate of 93% (14/15). There’s still work to do, of course, but the early signs of Diaz’s move somewhat highlight what a brilliant signing, finances aside, it could turn out to be.
Bayern supporters rushed to X (formerly Twitter) to wax poetic about the ex-Porto man. “Luis Diaz with good impressions in his debut,” one said before another added that he’ll bring a sense of excitement. “We’ll have a lot of fun with Bischof and Diaz.”
“Luis Diaz debuts at Bayern Munich! He was fouled for a penalty in the 50th minute, Olise converted it! The Colombian was proactive!"
“Luis Diaz, that grit! Damn, we needed it,” a fourth fan said as another concluded by claiming he’s an upgrade on Leroy Sane. They wrote, “Luis Diaz is 10 times better than Sane ngl.”
