Manchester United are eager to get another summer transfer finalised.
Manchester United continue their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko and are ‘pushing’ to get a deal over the line. The Red Devils are eager to sign the 22-year-old striker to add to their new look attack ahead of the 2025/26 season.
United had far from their best season when it came to influence in front of goal last campaign. Ruben Amorim’s side finished way down the standings in 15th place and recorded their lowest ever Premier League points tally with just 42 on the board.
United’s return of 44 goals was also the second lowest amount scored by non-relegated clubs last season.
They have managed to get their hands on key signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo so far but they remain hot in pursuit of Sesko from RB Leipzig.
Man United ‘have the money’ to sign Benjamin Sesko
United have identified Sesko as their leading choice for a new centre-forward this summer. However, as he is under contract until 2029 with Leipzig, it’s not going to be an easy deal to strike.
That hasn’t deterred Amorim and co, though. Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke has reported that the Red Devils are ‘confident’ they can reach the figure the Bundesliga side have set for Sesko and have the cash to hand to spend.
RB Leipzig are reportedly using Liverpool’s recent signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt as a benchmark for their own potential sale. Arne Slot’s side signed the striker for an initial £69 million in June.
“Man United are saying they’ve got the money to pull off a deal for Sesko. He won’t be cheap, RB Leipzig are holding out for a fee in the region of £70 million,” O’Rourke said.
“They’re looking at the Ekitike deal after Liverpool signed him from Frankfurt and using that as a barometer to say they should be getting the same fee for Sesko.”
United ‘pushing’ to get Benjamin Sesko transfer done
With more than £140 million spent on new transfers so far this window, United are looking to splash more cash to transform their team and kick on from last season’s disappointing run.
Sesko has been linked with a number of clubs this summer, including Arsenal. However, the north London side recently announced the signing of Viktor Gyokeres for £55 million, having reportedly not wanted to spend as much as Sesko’s asking price.
“Sesko’s future has been subject to speculation all summer. Arsenal showed an interest in him, but weren’t willing to go to the figures that Leipzig were looking for,” O’Rourke continued.
“Man United are confident they can get to those figures and have made him their number one choice to come in as their new striker this summer.
“United are pushing to try and get a deal done for Sesko, he’s the preferred choice and they’re trying to get a deal over the line, but it won’t be easy. They’re doing everything they can to try and get a deal for Sesko over the line.”
