Wolves are back on the market for new signings ahead of the new Premier League season.
Wolves have watched a rather dramatic summer transfer window unfold so far and there’s still plenty of time for them to oversee further business before the deadline.
Star players Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri have both swapped Wolverhampton for Manchester, with them signing for United and City respectively. The Wanderers pocketed a combined £98 million from the sale of the key duo.
They remain on the market to bolster their squad ahead of the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season. Wolves have already brought in the likes of Fer Lopez and Jhon Arias but more deals are expected to unfold in the coming weeks.
Wolves consider defender hijack
Wolves are looking at adding more options to their defensive line after their troublesome 2024/25 season. A tough start to the campaign set a worrying tone among the fans and the first half of the season presented the threat of relegation.
Fortunes eventually turned and the Old Gold were able to flip their season on its head and finish comfortably outside the bottom three. However, they have been looking to tighten up their defence after conceding the most amount of goals (69) of any non-relegated club by the end of the season.
According to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, Wolves are ‘considering a move to hijack’ Napoli’s current pursuit of Juanlu Sanchez. The Serie A side have reportedly been in conversation with Sevilla for almost a month now, having agreed personal terms with Sanchez’s representatives.
Wolves have earmarked the 21-year-old as one of a number of targets they are considering for their backline.
The report claims: “Despite reports, Sky Sports News understands there’s been no contact between the clubs at this stage - with the Premier League side exploring the conditions of a possible deal through intermediaries.
The Spain U21 international is one of a number of targets for the Premier League club.”
Who is Wolves target Juanlu Sanchez?
Sanchez is a product of Sevilla’s academy and made his debut for the B team at just 16 years of age in 2019. He followed up with his maiden first team appearance two years later.
Apart from a loan spell to CD Mirandes, Sanchez is yet to play for another club than Sevilla. Whoever wins the race for his signature this summer will also be the first club outside of Spain to have him on the books.
Sanchez played a key part in Sevilla’s 2024/25 season, making 32 La Liga appearances and contributing four goals and four assists. While he is naturally a right-back, he played four games as right-winger and 13 in midfield last campaign, showcasing his impressive versatility.
All goals and assists came from his appearances further forward, which opens up the possibility of him playing in a more advanced role if he was to sign for Wolves.
Sanchez was also part of the Spanish team that won the men’s gold medal at the Paris Olympics last summer. His goal in the semi-final secured Spain’s place in the final against France, who they went on to beat after extra time.
