Exclusive: Newcastle set to sign Muawiya Ghanem after beating Spurs to deal

Newcastle United have landed another highly-rated England youth hopeful as the club continues to bolster their Academy ranks.

NUFCBlog can exclusively reveal that talented teenager Muawiya Ghanem has agreed to sign and will soon arrive on Tyneside ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Ghanem has already bid farewell to Championship club West Brom, confirming he is leaving for a new challenge after several years with the West Midlands side.

Newcastle beat a number of Premier League clubs to the midfielder’s signature. Several ‘big six’ clubs showed interest and we can reveal that Spurs pushed hardest to land Ghanem, but the player has opted to join Newcastle instead.

Ghanem, who predominantly operates as a No. 8, will join Newcastle’s Under-15 side, following the same path as highly-rated duo Lesecond Yeutembip (Charlton) and Jayden Kouossu (West Brom), who both arrived in the North East last summer.

The youngster has been invited to England’s talent ID camps, showing he is very much on the Young Lions’ radar, but is yet to receive a full call-up to the England Under-15 set up.

His arrival follows exclusive stories we broke on Lesecond Yeutembip’s arrival from Charlton last August, along with Kyle Fitzgerald’s move from Ireland and the addition of Chukwudi “CJ” Afumuzor; the 15-year-old former Portsmouth talent who signed despite rival interest from Aston Villa, Brighton and Manchester United.

Another Academy arrival is in the pipeline and will be revealed soon at NUFCBlog, with the club committed to bolstering all age groups from youth level up to Eddie Howe’s senior side, particularly since new owners arrived.

Moving up to Under-18 level, Newcastle United announced earlier today that Matheos Ferreira and Aaron Epia have signed their first professional contracts at the club.

Ferreira is a 17-year-old winger who impressed last season with eight goals and six assists, while Epia, also 17, is a ball-playing centre-back who arrived from Everton last summer.
